4. Creating a New Instance of a Service Application
In SharePoint 2010, you have the option of creating
multiple instances of the same service application. So, for example,
you can configure your search service application multiple ways to
resolve your company’s different department requirements. To create a
new instance of an Excel Services service application, complete the
following steps.
Open a browser and go to the SharePoint Central Administration website.
Under Application Management, select Manage Service Applications.
Under
Service Applications, select New from the Create group on the Service
Applications Ribbon and choose a service application from the drop-down
list, such as Excel Services Application, as shown in Figure 4.
In this example, the Create New Excel Services Application screen will appear, as shown in Figure 5.
Choose a unique name for the service application.
Choose either to use an existing application pool or create a new application pool.
Select the security account for the application pool if you are creating a new application pool.
Choose
whether to add to the default proxy list. Select the Add This Service
Application’s Proxy To The Farm’s Default Proxy List check box if you
are adding to the default proxy list.
Click OK to finish and the new instance is created, as shown in Figure 6.
